System Installation ProcedureThe typical installation and training visit lasts for three days and includes the following:
Technical installation:
Training:
The preferred procedure is for the EGI support engineer to unpack the system to verify the completeness of the order. If the customer chooses to unpack the system, the customer is responsible for checking items off the packing list to confirm completeness of the order.
Please do not set up and turn on the system before the EGI support engineer arrives. This can actually hinder the installation process. Installation Procedure Checklist
Before the EGI support engineer plans the installation and training visit, we need each customer to go through the following checklist.
1) We need one month's notice for the installation visit. We will work with your staff to schedule a time that is convenient for you. 2) [MAC ONLY] Your system includes a Macintosh computer. You may choose to configure the Mac for connection to the Internet to facilitate downloading software updates and for transferring files to EGI. Please check with your network administrator on what will be required. While we would like to verify network access during the installation visit, it is not essential. [MAC AND PC] Your system includes both Macintosh and IBM-PC computers. You may choose to configure the Mac for connection to the Internet to facilitate downloading software updates and for transferring files to EGI. We recommend the PC be isolated from the network. For network access on the Mac, we ask that you check with your network administrator on what will be required. While we would like to verify network access during the installation visit, it is not essential. It is also not mandatory that the Mac have a dedicated connection as the need for updates is infrequent. 3) Your system ships with a wall mount for the Net Amps 300 articulated arm. We will need to know what type of wall is in your lab (dry wall, masonry, wood, etc.) so we can bring the appropriate tools. If you prefer to mount the arm to a table or some other horizontal surface, we will need to know the composition and approximate thickness fo the mounting surface in order to bring the the appropriate fasteners. While the arm is not heavy, the arm can act as a lever so the arm should be mounted to a cart or table weigh at least 10 Kg and with a low center of gravity. If you have any questions about amp or arm mounting, please let us know. Note that the amp does not necessarily have to be mounted. The arm, on the other hand, must be mounted to either a horizontal or vertical surface. 4) What is the general configuration of your lab? Will your subjects be in a different room? We will need to discuss the layout of your lab before the visit to understand how the physical installation will work most efficiently. Could you please send us a diagram of your lab space? This could be as simple as a hand-drawing of the space with some measurements. You may fax it to us at (+1-541-687-7963). This will decrease the installation time and allow more time for training. 5) How many people need to be trained? We have found that training goes more smoothly with two to four people. 6) We will need approximately 10 liters of distilled or otherwise purified water for the electrolyte. We will also need a means to warm the electrolyte (for subject comfort). A microwave oven will work, but you may need an additional container as the bucket provided with the system will not fit in smaller microwaves. 7) For the training, we will need one or more volunteer subjects. 8) The Geodesic Sensor Nets must be rinsed after use and after disinfection. We will need access to a sink. 9) The system comes with six towels, which should be enough for training. You will want to consider your future needs in this respect, such as if a towel service is in order. 10) If a GPS (Geodesic Photgrametry System) is shipping with your system, it will arrive in two large crates. The dimensions (in inches) follow: Gantry = 74x31x29, Dome = 46x48x50. If these crates are too large to be delivered to the lab, the GPS system may need to be unpacked. If so, please check with us for further instructions. |
